Case Study : Kingsfell

In 2020, I had the opportunity through Nachtigall Enterprises (my manufacturing business) to work on Kingsfell, a small product venture seeking to disrupt the dice making niche with innovative products. Yes, it’s kind of a weird “industry” to disrupt, but the hobby was flourishing at that time and there was extensive room to make the process of handmaking dice better.

I essentially acted as the product lead, handled branding, identity, logo, social media content, advertising, product design and much much more.

The company went on to raise over $300,000 in a Kickstarter campaign for their debut product and was acquired by a partner in 2023.

From a brand perspective, Kingsfell wanted to feel like a company of old-world quality, steeped in history and legacy.

While the name Kingsfell wasn’t meant to mean anything particular, I went for something that felt historically important and distinctly Old English in nature. A “fell” is a wide open barren landscape high in the mountains. Marrying that with “king’s” elicited a feeling of grand openness and majestic possibility.

A simple crown logo and a bold typemark gave us a very versatile logo that worked across print and digital media.

I designed all the social media and crowd funding assets for Kingsfell. There were many infographics, explanation images and charts/graphs to create for the campaign page. We were also posting content across Instagram and YouTube consistent, so I delivered video thumbnails, social posts and graphics to support that.

There was a strong emphasis on cohesive brand identity across the physical products we created, so you see that common design language in what was manufactured. We integrated logos into several products themselves so that when the molds or dice were used and posted about on social media, people would know at a glance that the product was ours.

I also wrote, produced, shot, edited and voiced over several promotional and announcement videos for the brand for posting on social media and the company YouTube channel.
